- 35 ozs firm, ripe Tomatoes (skinned and chopped)
- 16 ozs onions (finely chopped)
- 16 ozs cooking Apple (peeled and cored weight)
- 2 cups Vinegar
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground mixed spice
- 1 ¾ cups sugar
- 2 cups Golden raisins
- salt

Wash the jars in hot soapy water, rinse well and put in a low oven to dry and become warm.
Preparation steps

Put all the ingredients except the sugar, sultanas, salt and pepper into a large heavy-based pan.

Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer steadily, for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally until thick.

Remove from the heat and stir in the sugar until dissolved completely. Add the sultanas and season to taste. Stir well, over a low heat, then increase the heat and simmer steadily, for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally until the mixture is very thick.
4.
Remove the pan from the heat. Spoon the chutney into warm sterilised jars, seal and label. Decorate with ribbon.
