500 grams Beef (lean)
60 grams clarified butter
1 onion (finely chopped)
½ tsp Turmeric
½ tsp cinnamon
120 milliliters water
1 tsp salt
peppers (freshly ground)
250 grams Sour cherry (fresh or from a jar, no pits)
1 Tbsp lemon juice
brown sugar

Preparation steps

Trim fat and sinew from the meat and cut into 2 cm (approximately 1/2-inch) cubes. Melt half of the butter in a heavy saucepan and brown the meat cubes on all sides. Remove the meat and reduce the heat. Add the onion with the remaining fat in the pan and saute until soft. Add in the turmeric powder and cook for 2 minutes.

Return the meat back to the pan, along with cinnamon, water, salt and pepper. Cover and cook over low heat for 40 minutes. Stir in the cherries and sauté for 10 minutes. Add the lemon juice and brown sugar and simmer another 20 minutes, or until the meat is tender. Serve alone or on top of basmati rice.
