1 ½ cups butter
1 ½ cups caster sugar
6 eggs
3 cups self-rising flour
½ tsp vanilla extract
1 Tbsp cocoa powder
¾ tsp Baking powder
¾ cup Chocolate chip

Preparation steps

1.
Heat the oven to 180°C (160° fan) 350°F gas 4. Grease 2 x 12 mini sandwich cake tins.

Beat the butter and sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
3.
Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well to combine. Add the vanilla and mix well.

Sift in the flour and stir gently until blended.
5.
Put half the mixture into another bowl and sift in the cocoa and baking powder. Stir until blended, then stir in the chocolate chips.
6.
Spoon into the tins - 12 plain cakes and 12 chocolate and bake for about 15 minutes until risen and springy to the touch. Cool in the tins for 5 minutes, then place on a wire rack to cool completely.
7.
Pack into glasses and tie with ribbon. Serve with whipped cream.
