Kitchen utensils

1 9" (23 cm) round pan Springform pan

Preparation steps

1.

Preheat the oven to 150°C / 300°F.  Crumble the matzo, cover with water and let soak. Squeeze out the excess moisture and mix with half of the butter. Separate the eggs. Mix the egg yolks, apple, salt, and sugar into the matzo mixture. Whip the egg whites until stiff then fold into matzo mixture.

2.

Grease a baking 9-inch round baking pan or springform pan with 1 tsp softened butter and fill it with the matzo mixture. Spread the remaining butter (1 TBSP - cut into small dabs) over top and bake in a preheated oven at 150°C / 300°F for about 1 hour, until golden brown.

You have 2 Tbsp then 1 tsp of butter listed. Can you clear that up for me please? Also what size baking dish did you use? The cake looks delicious and I really want to try this recipe but I don't want to mess it up.

Hi and sorry for the confusion. The 1 teaspoon is for greasing the pan. We prefer a 9-inch springform pan, but you can also use a 9-inch round baking pan.

Would it be ok to make ahead of time then freeze? Also, Im having a large gathering so would I be able to double or triple this recipe in a larger pan?

We haven't tried freezing it so I don't know if that would work. I think you could easily double it and put it in a larger rectangle shaped pan, however we haven't tested it that way.

Thank you for posting this recipe! It looks really good and I hope to try it for a meal this weekend. Just a quick question though...why would you add pepper to this recipe if it is a dessert, and pepper is not in the ingredient list? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Blessings!

Hi and thanks for catching the typo! The recipe is amended now. You are correct in that no pepper is needed. Let us know how it turns out.
