- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsps cream of tartar
- 1 ½ tsps Baking powder
- 2 Tbsps Shortening (generous)
- 1 cup Buttermilk

Preparation steps

Preheat oven to 475º F.

In a bowl, combine flour, salt, baking soda, cream of tartar, and baking powder together. Using a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in the shortening. Quickly pour the buttermilk into the dry ingredients, using a fork for stirring. Turn dough out on a lightly floured work surface and knead gently, 5 or 6 times.

Press dough into a 1-inch thick round. Dust a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter with flour and cut out biscuits, being sure to push straight down through the dough. Place 1-inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.
