- 1 ⅓ cups vegetable Shortening
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp baking soda
- 6 Tbsps Buttermilk

Preparation steps
1.
Heat the oven to 190°C (170° fan) 375°F gas 5. Line 3 large baking trays with non-stick baking paper.
2.
Beat together the sugar, shortening, and salt in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
3.
Beat in the egg and vanilla until combined.
4.
Add the flour, bicarbonate of soda and buttermilk and mix until light and fluffy.
5.
Spoon into a piping bag with a large star nozzle.
6.
For each cookie - pipe 1 star and then pipe 6 more stars surrounding the first star onto the baking trays, spacing the cookies about 5cm|2" apart.
7.
Bake for 10-15 minutes until light golden around the edges. , Cool on the trays for 10 minutes, then place on a wire rack to cool completely.
