Colorful Christmas Tree Ornaments

For the dough: Cream the butter, powdered sugar, egg yolks and orange zest until creamy. Add the flour, ground almonds and baking powder and knead until smooth. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for 60 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 180°C (convection oven 160°C, gas mark 2-3) (approximately 350°F).
On a lightly floured work surface, roll out the dough until about 5 mm (approximately 1/8-1/4 inch) thick. Cut out Christmas-themed shapes and arrange on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Whisk the egg yolk and milk together then brush over the cookies. Make a hole in the top of each cookie with a wooden skewer.
Bake the cookies for 8-12 minutes. Immediately after removing the cookies from the oven, re-poke the holes with the skewer. Let cool on a wire rack.
To decorate: Sift the powdered sugar and mix with the lemon juice. Tint with food coloring, transfer to piping bags and pipe over the cookies. Sprinkle with sugar pearls and let set.
