Preparation

Kitchen utensils

1 Pot, 1 Small pot, 1 Measuring cups, 1 Cutting board, 1 Large knife, 1 Tablespoon, 1 Wooden spoon, 1 Peeler, 1 Blender

Preparation steps

1.
Preheat the oven to 180°C (160° fan) 350F, gas 4.
2.
Grease the pie dish with vegetable oil.
3.
In a frying pan, soften the shallots and garlic in hot butter without colouring. Remove from the heat.
4.
Squeeze the bread roll to remove excess liquid and mix into the ground beef along with the chilli, shallots, garlic, spring onion, cranberries, nuts, and eggs. Season with cinnamon, cloves, ginger, salt and pepper and mix well.
5.
Put the beef mixture into the greased pie dish and smooth the surface.
6.
Roll out the sheet of puff pastry to approx. 0.5 cm | 0.25" thickness, or large enough to cover the pie pan.
7.
Cut parallel staggered rows of slits of equal lengths (approx. 2.25 cm | 1" long) into the pastry at regular intervals (1 cm | 1/2").
8.
Carefully pull the pastry apart to create a diamond lattice pattern and lay on top of the beef. Press to firm and trim off any overhanging edges.
9.
Bake in the oven for around 1 hour, covering with tin foil if the pastry colours too quickly.
