- 1 ¼ cups caster sugar
- vanilla extract
- 1 pinch salt
- 5 eggs
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 4 tsps Baking powder
- 4 Tbsps milk
- ¼ cup cocoa powder
- To decorate
- powdered sugar

Preparation steps
1.
Heat the oven to 180°C (160° fan) 350°F gas 4. Grease a kugelhopf tin.
2.
Beat the butter in a mixing bowl until smooth. Gradually beat in the sugar, vanilla and salt until smooth.
3.
Add the eggs, one at a time, beating vigorously each time.
4.
Sift the flour and baking powder into the mixture and gently stir into the mixture with the milk.
5.
Put half the mixture into another bowl and sift in the cocoa. Stir until blended.
6.
Spoon half the cocoa mixture into the tin. Spoon half the plain mixture on top, then spoon on the remaining cocoa mixture. Spoon on the remaining plain mixture.
7.
Bake for 1 hour, until risen and golden brown.
8.
Cool in the tin for 10 minutes, then place on a wire rack to cool completely.
9.
Sift over a little icing sugar just before serving.
