Product recommendation
Suggested variation 1; add 400 g / 14 oz / 2 cups canned butter beans to the slow cooker before cooking. Suggested recipe name – white tuna with butter beans and capers. Suggested variation 2; add 125 ml / 4 1/2 fl. oz / 1/2 cup dry white wine to the slow cooker to braise the vegetables in. Suggested recipe name – white tuna and white wine stew.

Preparation steps

1.
Rub the tuna steaks with the olive oil and season well.
2.
Heat a large frying pan over a moderate heat until hot and seal the tuna for a minute on both sides. Transfer to a plate and set to one side.
3.
Combine the onions, capers, chopped tomatoes, sugar and seasoning in a slow cooker. Stir well and sit the tuna steak on top.
4.
Cover with a lid and cook on a medium setting for 3-4 hours until the tuna is just cooked; it should be firm yet a little springy to the touch.
5.
Adjust the seasoning once the tuna is cooked and remove from the slow cooker.
6.
Spoon the tomato, caper and onion stew onto a serving platter and top with the tuna steaks. Garnish with the parsley before serving.
