Preparation steps

1.

Preheat the oven to 225°C (approximately 425°F). With a paring knife make a crosswise cut in the rounded side of the chestnuts Place on a baking sheet and roast, turning the chestnuts occasionally until the shells start to pop open, about 40 minutes,  Remove and when cool enough to handle, peel.

2.

Peel the onions and apples. Core the apples and finely chop the oOnions and apples. Heat the butter in a pan, sauté the onions and apples until tender. Stir in the thyme,  season with  salt and pepper. Stir in the chestnuts, remove from the heat and cool.
