Ingredients

for
1
For the cake
1 vanilla Sponge cake
For the buttercream
3 ½ cups prepared buttercream
natural pink Food coloring
To decorate
1 child's doll
6 Sugar paste (roses)

Preparation steps

1.
For the cake: Preheat the oven to 170°C (150° fan) | 325F | gas 3. Prepare the cake batter and spoon into a greased pudding bowl.
2.
Bake for 40 - 50 minutes until a cake tester comes out clean from its centre. Remove to a wire rack to cool.
3.
Once cool, use a wide spatula to help turn out the cake from the bowl. Trim the top side flat with a serrated knife and sit the flat side on a cake stand.
4.
For the buttercream: Gently beat together the buttercream with a few drops of food colouring until uniformly pink. Spoon most of the buttercream into a piping bag fitted with a small star-shaped nozzle.
5.
Cover the cake with a thin layer of the remaining buttercream. Chill for 15 minutes. Pipe roses of buttercream all over the sides of the cake, leaving the top undecorated for now.
6.
Using a small thin skewer, bore two holes down through the top of the cake, approximately 4 cm | 1.5" width apart. Pass the legs of the doll down through the holes so that her body is sitting on top of the cake.
7.
Continue to pipe around the base of the doll and then fashion her a dress with more buttercream roses. Garnish with sugarpaste roses on her dress before serving.
