For the cake
½ cup butter
½ cup sugar
2 eggs (beaten)
cup milk
2 ¼ cups self-rising flour
½ tsp grated Nutmeg
1 cup chopped, ready-to-eat Dried fig
½ cup colored glace Candied cherry (chopped)
0.333 cup Golden raisins
To decorate
powdered sugar
fresh Figs (sliced)

Preparation steps

For the cake: heat the oven to 325°F. Grease a 1-1/2 lb loaf tin and line the base with non-stick baking paper.

Beat the butter and sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and milk beating well to combine. Sift in the flour and nutmeg and mix well. Stir in the dried fruits.

Spoon into the tin and make a slight hollow in the center. Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden and firm to the touch. Cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then place on a wire rack to cool completely.

To decorate: sift a little icing sugar over the top and arrange sliced figs on top.
