Preparation steps

Peel the onion. Put the onion in a large pot along with the cloves, pancetta and bay leaves. Cover with water and simmer over low heat for 2 hours.
Rinse and trim the beans and rinse the pears. Remove the pancetta from the pot and strain the broth through a sieve. Slice the pancetta and bring to a boil with the broth. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cut the pears in half and add to the pot along with the beans and half of the savory. Cook until everything is tender, about 15-20 minutes. Chop the remaining savory. Season with salt and pepper and sprinkle with the savory.

Before serving, chop the onion into small dice and stir into the dish.
