- 1 ⅛ cups unsalted butter
- 1 ⅛ cups caster sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 large egg (beaten)
- 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- To decorate
- ½ cup Jam (jelly)
- powdered sugar
Preparation steps
1.
Beat the butter, sugar, vanilla and salt in a mixing bowl until soft and creamy.

Gradually beat in the egg until blended.
3.
Add the flour and mix to a soft dough. Wrap in cling film and chill for 30 minutes.

Heat the oven to 160°C (140° fan) 325°F gas 3. Line 2 baking trays with non-stick baking paper.
5.
Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of 5mm|1/4".
6.
Using a large star cookie cutter, cut out 30 star shapes and place them on the baking tray.

Using a small star cookie cutter, cut the centres from 15 of the star shapes. Place on the baking trays and chill for 30 minutes.
8.
Bake for 6-8 minutes until pale golden. Cool on the baking trays.
9.
To decorate: heat the jam in a pan until melted. Spread 1 teaspoonful of jam evenly over the whole stars.
10.
Lightly dust the hollow stars with icing sugar and place one on top of each of the jam filled stars.
