Preparation steps

Mix the flour, almonds, sugar, vanilla sugar, salt, spices and lemon zest on a work surface. Form a well in the center. Beat the egg and pour into the well. Chop the butter into small pieces and distribute around the flour. Quickly knead the ingredients into a smooth dough, form into a ball, wrap in plastic and chill for about 1 hour. Preheat the oven to 180°C (approximately 350°F),

Roll the dough out on a floured surface until about 3-4 mm (approximately 1/4 inch) thick. Use a cookie cutter to cut out snowflakes. Knead the remaining dough together, roll out again and cut out more snowflakes.

Place the cookies on a lined baking sheet. Bake for about 8-10 minutes, until golden. Remove from the oven.

Allow the cookies to cool on a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar and serve.
