¼ cup dark Molasses
1 fresh egg
2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
2 tsps baking soda
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
½ tsp ground allspice
1 pinch ground Nutmeg
¼ tsp salt
3 Tbsps granulated sugar (for dipping)

Preparation steps

In large bowl, cream together brown sugar and shortening. Stir in molasses and egg and beat well with an electric mixer set on medium speed. Stir in flour, baking soda, ground cinnamon, ginger, allspice, nutmeg and salt. Cover and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour or until firm.

Preheat oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Shape dough by rounded tablespoonfuls into 1 1/2-inch balls. Roll in granulated sugar and place on prepared cookie sheets, about 2-inches apart.

Bake 9 to 10 minutes or until just set. Cool on baking sheet for 1 to 2 minutes. Transfer to wire cooling racks to cool completely.
