In a bowl, beat the butter with the the brown, caster and vanilla sugar to form a creamy mixture. Add the salt and egg and beat in. Sieve over the flour and baking powder and mix in well. Fold in the chocolate chips, then cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for approx. 30 minutes.
Heat the oven to 160°C (140°C in a fan oven), 325°F, gas 3 and line a baking tray with grease-proof paper.
Take small portions of the dough and shape into balls. Place on the tray and flatten slightly. Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes, then remove from the tray with the paper and cool on a wire rack.
