Preparation steps

1.

Rinse cherries, drain, remove pits and cut in half. Drizzle prepared cherries with cherry liqueur and set aside.

2.

Cut vanilla pod in half lengthwise. Over a hot water bath, beat milk, sugar and eggs until creamy. Remove from heat or place over a cold water bath if desired and continue to stir mixture until cooled. Remove vanilla pod. Beat cream in a bowl until stiff. Carefully fold whipped cream and cherries into egg mixture.

3.

Pour ice cream mixture into a shallow metal tray, place in the freezer for 3 hours, stirring every 30 minutes (or finish in an ice cream machine as directed).

4.

To serve, place 3-4 ice cream balls formed with an ice cream scoop gouge into tall glasses. Serve if desired with macarons.
