Preparation steps

Preheat the oven to 180°C (approximately 350°F).

For the cake, chop the chocolate and melt in a bowl over a pot of simmering water. In a bowl, beat the butter and sugar until creamy. Stir in the eggs and melted chocolate. Mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and vanilla sugar together. Add to the chocolate mixture. Fold in the chopped walnuts.

Grease the pan with flour and transfer the dough into the pan. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes. Check to see if the cake is done with a toothpick. Remove the cake from the oven, turn out on a wire rack and let cool.

For the chocolate sauce, Bring 3/4 of the cream to a boil. Chop the chocolate. Mix the cornstarch with the other 1/4 of the cream and stir into the boiling liquid. Remove from the heat and pour over the chopped chocolate to melt. Stir until smooth and allow to cool.

To serve, cut the cake into 7 cm (approximately 2 3/4 inches) circles, about 4. Place on serving plates and place a scoop of chocolate ice cream on top of the cooled cake. Garnish with chocolate sauce and a chocolate truffle.
