The pickled pears can be used on their own, for desserts or as a cake topping. Pears provide mainly vitamins A, B1, B2 and C. Vitamin C in particular is very sensitive to heat. However, the short boiling time ensures that not too much of the valuable ingredients are lost on their way to the glass.

Tip: Pay attention to the designation "juice" when buying. "Fruit nectar" and "fruit juice drink" have a lower juice content when diluted with water. Furthermore, the addition of sugar is common.

Preparation steps

1.

Peel the pears and remove the core.

2.

Bring the white wine, the rum, juice, 250 ml (approximately 8 ounces) of water, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and slit vanilla bean to a boil. Add the pears, and simmer for 3 minutes. Divide the pears jars and fill with the boiling pickling liquid so that the pears are covered (if necessary add some hot wine). Seal tightly and let cool completely.
