sliced hazelnuts (or chopped)

Preparation steps

Beat the butter, brown sugar and egg together for about 10 minutes until frothy. Stir in the ground cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, hazelnuts and lemon peel. Mix the flour and baking powder, and mix into the egg mixture. Knead into a smooth dough and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill for about 1 hour in the refrigerator.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and sprinkle evenly with sliced hazelnut.

Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 4 mm thick and cut into rectangular cookies. Place the cookies over the hazelnuts in the baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (fan: 160°C, gas mark 2-3) (approximately 350°F) for about 15 minutes.

Remove the cookies from the oven and let cool on a wire rack.
