Put the red wine into a pan. Wash the orange in hot water, scrape off the zest, peel thoroughly including the white pith and cut into pieces. Wash the apple and cut into chunks. Wash and quarter the figs and add to the red wine in the pan with the sugar, orange and apple pieces, dried pears, orange zest and vanilla.
Tie the spices in a small piece of muslin and hang in the punch. Bring to the boil and simmer gently for about 10 minutes.
Stir in the Calvados. Divide the fruit between glasses and fill up with hot punch.
