Preparation steps

Cube butter and melt in a saucepan with honey and sugar, stirring until sugar is dissolved.  Place in a large mixing bowl and let cool. Add almonds, 400 g flour (approximately 3.5 cups), spices and egg. Use the dough hook on a mixer to knead into a smooth dough. Add more flour if needed. Mix potash in a small bowl until smooth with the rum. Add to dough and continue kneading until the dough is shiny and no longer sticky.

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let rest in the refrigerator overnight.

Preheat the oven to 180 ° C (approximately 350 ° F).

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut out snowflake shapes with cookie cutters or by hand. Place on the baking sheet, bake for 15-20 minutes and carefully remove from baking sheet. Cool on a wire rack.
