Soften the bread in lukewarm water. Wring out well and mix with the minced meat. Stir in the egg and breadcrumbs if required so that a pliable mixture is formed.
Season with salt and cumin and shape into 8 meatballs.
Grind the Szechuan pepper and the peppercorns in a mortar and sprinkle over the meatballs.
Fry the meatballs and the garlic in 3-4 tbsp hot oil for around 4-5 min on each side. Serve with a rocket salad.
