Preparation steps

For the cake: Preheat the oven to 180°C (approximately 350°F). Grease a pan with butter and dust with flour.

Cream butter and sugar. Gradually add eggs, flour, baking powder, hazelnuts and chocolate. If dough is too hard, add a little milk. Pour batter into pan, smooth surface and for about 50 minutes. Remove from oven, let cool slightly, then release from pan and cool completely on a wire rack.

For the topping: Use a shamrock template, about the size of the pan, and cut a large shamrock out of the cake. Save excess cake. Press apricot jam through a sieve and spread onto cake. Knead marzipan, powdered sugar and food coloring until smooth. Roll out on work surface dusted with powdered sugar and cut out using shamrock template. Place on the cake.

Melt milk chocolate and put in a piping bag. Draw contours of the shamrock with chocolate.

For the ladybug: Combine reserved cake and quark and knead into a moldable mass, add more quark if needed. Shape into a ladybug. Mix together powdered sugar with a little water to form a glaze. Use food coloring to dye up to 1 2/3 teaspoon of the mixture red and black. Use colored glaze to decorate ladybug. Set lady bug on cake and serve dusted with powdered sugar.
