The salted herring brings an extra portion of omega-3 fatty acids, which protect our blood vessels and can reduce high cholesterol levels, and the fish is also rich in vitamin D, which is involved in the incorporation of calcium into the bones and thus protects against osteoporosis. Beetroot scores with iron and folic acid, which is the perfect combination for healthy blood formation.

A dip of sour cream goes well with the salted herrings with beetroot, season them with a little salt and pepper. A slice of wholemeal bread also tastes delicious with the fish. If you like this recipe, then you will certainly enjoy the classic North German Labskaus. Click here for a smart recipe.
