Preheat the oven to 180°C (approximately 350°F). Use the butter to grease the pan and sprinkle with the crumbs.

Chop the chocolate and melt over a pot of simmering water.

Separate the eggs. Beat the egg yolks with the softened butter, half the powdered sugar, salt, and the vanilla pod in a bowl.

Whip the egg whites with the remaining powdered sugar until stiff. Fold the cooled chocolate into the egg yolks. Fold in the egg whites.

Transfer the batter into the pan and bake in the oven for 45 minutes. Check to see if the cake is done with a toothpick. Remove from the oven and let cool.

Press the apricot jam through a sieve and warm slightly with the orange liqueur in a small saucepan until it melts. Spread the bottom layer of the cake with apricot jam and cover with the second layer.
