1 Baking sheet, 1 Bowl, 1 Small bowl, 1 Cutting board, 1 Large knife, 1 Small knife, 1 Fork, 1 Tablespoon, 3 Plates

Preparation steps

Heat the oven to 160ºC (140º fan) 325ºF gas 3. Grease a large baking tray.

Beat the butter until soft and fluffy then beat in the sugar and then the flour. Knead gently to form a stiff dough and chill for 30 minutes. Roll onto a floured board to a thickness of about 1/2 cm|1/4". Using a large heart-shaped cutter, cut an even number of shapes from the dough.

Using a smaller heart-shaped cutter, cut the middles out of half the large heart shapes. Put the large heart shapes without the middles cut away, onto the baking tray and moisten them with a little water. Lay the large shapes with the middles cut away on top of the shapes on the tray and gently press the two together.
4.
Brush the tops of the biscuits with the beaten egg. Put about a teaspoon of the jam in the middle of each biscuit and bake for 20-30 minutes, until the biscuits are golden brown.
5.
Cool on the baking trays for a few minutes, then place on a wire rack to cool completely.
