Preparation steps

Peel the shallots and halve lengthwise, leaving root ends intact.

Melt the butter in a pot. Sauté shallots over medium heat until translucent, stirring frequently.

Pour in red wine and port and bring to a boil.

Add cloves, cinnamon and bay leaf to the pot.
