Preheat the oven to 350°F heat.
Peel and halve garlic. Rub gratin dish with garlic cloves.
Rinse potatoes, peel and cut into 1/4th inch slices. Layer gratin dish with potatoes. Combine cream cheese with sour cream, season with salt, pepper and nutmeg and pour over potatoes.
Potatoes should be half-covered with a sauce (adjust cream quantity accordingly).
Bake in preheated oven at 350°F for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown.
If desired, turn on broiler during last 10 minutes of baking to make potatoes more brown (always wach carefully when using broiler). Sprinkle with fresh marjoram and serve.
