Poppy Seed Cake with Plums
Rinse plums, cut in half and remove pits.
Preheat oven to 180°C (approximately 350°F). Boil milk, sprinkle in semolina and cook for about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and mix in poppy seeds and plum butter. Separate eggs and beat egg whites until stiff. Whisk egg yolks with lemon zest, lemon juice, butter, vanilla sugar and sugar. Mix semolina mixture into egg yolk mixture and fold in egg whites. Pour batter into a buttered cake pan. Smooth, top with plums and bake for 50 minutes. Remove, slightly cool and then remove from pan.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with whipped cream as desired.
