Knotted Pretzel Heart
Dissolve the yeast into the milk and stir in 1 teaspoon of sugar. In a bowl, combine flour, the remaining sugar, salt, eggs and sliced butter, then pour in the yeast mixture. Thoroughly knead with the kneading hook of an electric mixer until smooth. Place the dough into a bowl and keep covered in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until the dough has doubled in size.
Knead out the dough on a floured surface, cut in half, roll out into 2 thin rolls and wrap them around each other like a rope. Form the shape of a heart and place on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Brush with beaten egg yolk and sprinkle with granulated sugar. Bake on the center rack of a preheated oven at 180°C (approximatley 350°F) for about 35-40 minutes.
