Jelly-filled Cookies with Star Cut-outs
Combine flour, baking powder, sugar, vanilla sugar, sliced butter, egg and ground hazelnuts, and knead into a ball. Wrap it in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Put the dough on a floured surface and roll out to be about 0.4 cm (approximately 1/8 inch) thick. Using a round cookie cutter with a wavy edge, cut out the cookies (somewhere around 5 cm in diameter, approximately 2 inches). Cut out small stars from the centers of half of the cookies. Place cookies on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and bake at 180°C (approximately 350°F) for about 12 minutes. Remove and let cool.
Warm the jelly and spread on the cookies without stars cut out. Place the cookies with stars on top of the jelly-spread cookies and gently press down. Let dry. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
