Preparation steps

1.
Heat the oven to 180°C (160°C in a fan oven), 350°F, gas 4. Line a muffin or cupcake tin with paper baking cases.
2.
Beat the butter, sugar and vanilla sugar and extract in a bowl for approx. 5 minutes until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one by one. Mix together the flours, salt, baking powder and bicarbonate of soda. Add gradually to the egg mixture and beat in, alternating with the milk.
3.
Spoon half the dough into the baking cases. Divide the drained cherries among the cupcakes. Spoon the remaining dough on top and bake for approx. 25 minutes until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool in the tin for about 10 minutes. Remove from the tin and place on a wire rack to cool completely.
4.
Sprinkle with icing sugar and garnish with jelly cherries.
