1 Tbsp sugar
2 Tbsps White vinegar

Preparation steps

1.

Peel the onions and cut into rings. Heat the oil in a pan, and sauté the onions until translucent. Sprinkle with the sugar, and caramelize until golden brown. Deglaze with the vinegar and 2-3 tablespoons of water. Simmer until the liquid has almost evaporated, then remove from the heat. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Place the sausages in a pan of hot water. Cook for 5 minutes until heated through, but don't allow to come to a boil.

Rinse and slice the cucumber.

Preheat the broiler.

Place the hot dog buns on an oven rack, and toast until golden brown on both sides. Remove from the oven, halve lengthwise, and brush the bottoms with ketchup. Top with the cucumber slices, a drained sausage, and the onion mixture. Serve immediately.

Serve with a colorful salad, if you'd like.
