Preparation steps

1.

For the filling, mix the honey, sugar, orange juice, cinnamon, and cloves and simmer for 5 minutes in a pot. Remove cinnamon and cloves, set aside 4 tablespoons syrup for the glaze, mix the rest with walnuts and orange zest.

2.

For the dough, mix the pastry flour, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon. Beat the butter until soft, add the sugar and beat until fluffy. Add the oil and orange juice, sift in the flour and process everything into a smooth dough. Form into a ball, wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to make two 3mm (approximately 1/8 inch) thick squares (15 x 15 cm) (approximately 6 inches). Cut each into 3 x 3 cm (approximately 1 x 1 inch) squares. Place 1 teaspoon of filling on half of the squares, top with the other half and press down around the edges to seal. Bake in the oven at 160°C (approximately 325°F) for 15 minutes and allow to cool. To serve, glaze as desired or dust with powdered sugar.
