Preparation steps

Rinse, and hull the strawberries, pat dry and cut into small pieces. Place in a large pot and mash with a potato masher or a fork. Rinse and dry the rhubarb and peel, removing the strings. Thinly slice the rhubarb and add to the strawberries. Add the jam sugar to the fruit, mix everything thoroughly and let stand for about 2 hours stirring occasionally. Rinse the jars and the lids in boiling water and drain.

Bring the fruit mixture to a boil over medium heat and cook, stirring all the while until bubbly, about 2 minutes. Check to see if the jam has set by spooning 1 -2 teaspoons jam on a plate and if it isn't runny, it's ready. Otherwise continue cooking a short while longer.

Pour the jam into the jars, top with a lid and close them immediately.
