Preparation steps

In a bowl, beat the butter, sugar and egg until very thick and creamy, about 10 minutes. Stir the cinnamon, lemon zest, cloves, cardamom and ground hazelnuts into the butter mixture until thoroughly combined. Add the flour and baking powder, and knead into a smooth dough. Shape into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hours.

Preheat a convection oven to 180°C (approximately 350°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and dust with the hazelnut slivers.

On a floured surface, roll the dough to 4 mm (approximately 1/4 inch) thick. Cut into rectangles. Place on the hazelnut-dusted baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes.

Remove and cool on a wire rack before serving.
