Preparation steps

Rinse lemon in hot water, pat dry and cut one-half into thin slices. Squeeze juice from remaining half.

Rinse sardines, pat dry and season inside with salt and pepper. Fill sardines with lemon slices and bay leaves and put on wooden skewers soaked in water.

Brush sardines with 1-2 tablespoons oil, sprinkle with lemon juice and season with salt and pepper. Cook sardines under a preheated oven broiler, watching carefully, for 10-12 minutes while turning. Serve immediately.
