Glazed Christmas Cookie Ornaments
- For the cookies
- 9 ounces Pastry flour
- 1 teaspoon Baking powder
- 6 ½ ounces cane sugar
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon Gingerbread spice
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 2 ounces butter
- For the garnish
- 9 ounces powdered sugar
- blue Food coloring
- tan Food coloring
- colorful, metallic Sugar pearls
- For Hanging the Cookies:
- twine, ribbon or Cord
For the cookies: In a bowl, stir the flour with the baking powder, brown sugar, salt, egg, honey, cinnamon, gingerbread spice and milk until combined. Cube the butter and distribute over the flour mixture. Knead with a hand mixer fitted with a dough hook until thoroughly combined.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth. Roll the dough to 1/8-1/2 inch thick. Cut out trees, stars, and hearts. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Use a chopstick, straw, or knitting needle to prick a hole into the top of each cookie for hanging.
Preheat the oven to 180°C / 350°F. Bake the cookies on the middle rack for 15 minutes. Remove and cool on a wire rack.
For the garnish: In a bowl, stir the powdered sugar with some water until creamy. Place 1/3 of the glaze in a bowl and color with the blue food coloring. Place another 1/3 of the glaze in another bowl and color with the tan food coloring. Leave the remaining glaze white.
Glaze the star cookies with the blue glaze. Allow to dry and pipe white dots on top.
Glaze the trees in the white glaze and decorate with the metallic sugar pearls.
Glaze the pointsettias with the white glaze. Place some of the tan glaze in the middle and use a toothpick to swirl into the white glaze.
Pipe white dots on the heart cookies.
Allow the cookies to dry.
Thread the twine through the holes. Tie into a decorative bow.
