Gingerbread Cake Houses
For a gingerbread house, cut a piece of cake about 8 cm (approximately 3 inches) long. Cut the two sides of one short end of the cake piece into a peak to form the roof.
For the icing, stir lemon juice with about 2/3 of the powdered sugar until smooth and spread over gingerbread house.
For the frosting, mix remaining powdered sugar into icing. Place frosting in a pastry bag or freezer bag with a corner cut off. Decorate gingerbread house with frosting as desired with dots, icicles and other details.
Before the icing dries, press candy into icing for roof tiles, fireplace, door and other details.
If desired, dye frosting with food colorings to add more details to decorations. Let gingerbread house dry at room temperature.
Repeat with remaining cake, frosting and candy, finishing with 2 to 3 gingerbread houses.
