Figs in Spiced Red Wine Sauce
Rinse figs and pat dry.
In a shallow, wide saucepan, cook sugar until caramelized. Add port wine and red wine. Add vanilla bean and spices and place figs in the pan, side-by-side. Cover and simmer about 10 minutes. Remove from heat, cover and let stand 10 minutes more.
Remove figs and divide among bowls.
Mix cornstarch with 2 tablespoons water and stir into red wine sauce. Simmer until thickened. To serve, pour red wine sauce over figs.
Serve with vanilla ice cream, if desired.
