To heat the jars fill a large pot with hot tap water and the jars. Place on the stove over medium/low heat. Use tongs to remove the jars from the water bath.
Wash, clean and dice the figs. Mix with the preserving sugar and allow to steep for two hours.
Place fruit in a saucepan, add the port and bring to a boil while stirring. Bring to a rolling boil and allow to cook for 3 minutes.
Fill the hot bottles with the marmalade and close. Turn the bottles upside down for about 15 minutes then turn them right side up and allow to cool.
