Preparation steps

1.

For the cake: Separate the eggs. Beat the egg whites with sugar and vanilla sugar until stiff. Sift together almonds, baking powder and  flour. Add flour mixture alternately with the egg yolks and beat to combine. Grease bottom of the springform pan, sprinkle with flour and pour in the batter, smoothing the top. Bake in preheated oven at 180°C (approximately 350°F) for about 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in middle comes out clean. Let cool slightly, then remove from pan and let cool on a wire rack.

2.

For the frosting: Place half the sugar with the egg yolks and 1/4 of the milk in a bowl and mix well. Boil remaining milk with remaining sugar, vanilla bean and seeds, rum and coffee. Then stir in the cornstarch mixed with a little water and cook until thickened, stirring often, pour into the bowl with yolk mixture. Remove vanilla bean, sprinkle with powdered sugar and let cool. Then pass through a fine sieve and stir until smooth. Beat butter on medium speed until fluffy and gradually beat in the coffee mixture.

3.

Split cake into three layers horizontally. Spread bottom layer with  orange marmalade spread and put the middle layer on top. Spread top of middle layer with about 1/4 of the frosting and then place remaining layer on top. Spread remaining frosting over cake. Refrigerate and decorate as desired just before serving.
