Preparation

Kitchen utensils

1 Measuring cups, 2 Pots, 1 Cutting board, 1 Small knife, 1 Tablespoon, 1 Wooden spoon, 1 kleine Ladle

Preparation steps

1.
Chop the chocolate and melt in a bowl over a pan of hot water, together with the espresso and the coffee liqueur. Beat the butter, sugar and vanilla extract until light and creamy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time. Stir in the flour and the baking powder and add some milk until the batter is smooth. Pour about 1/3 of the batter in another bowl and stir in the melted chocolate. Pour the chocolate batter in a buttered loaf pan. Spread some of the chocolate batter up the sides of the loaf pan. Pour the vanilla batter over the top and level the top. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (180°) for about 60 minutes. Test to see if the cake is ready. If it starts to get too brown, cover with a piece of tin foil.
2.
For the meringue topping, whisk the egg whites until stiff. Slowly add the sugar and continue whisking. Remove the cake from the oven. Spread the meringue over the top and place under the broiler for 4 - 5 minutes to brown. Turn the cake out of the loaf pan and let cool.
