Christmas Tree Cake
Preheat the oven to 180°C (approximately 350°F).
Rinse the lemon in hot water, wipe dry and finely grate the zest, then squeeze out juice. Beat butter and sugar in a bowl until foamy and gradually stir in the eggs. Mix the flour with the baking powder in a sieve and sift into the butter mixture, then add the lemon zest and mix until batter is smooth. Butter the mold and add the batter, spreading smoothly. Bake in preheated oven for 35-40 minutes. (Test by inserting a toothpick in the middle; it should come out clean.)
Remove from the oven and let cool in pan on a wire rack. Tint the powdered sugar with a few drops of green food coloring, and add just enough lemon juice until a thick, lush-green glaze forms. Spread the icing on the cake and decorate with the candies before the glaze dries.
