Preparation steps

1.

For the cookies: In a bowl, stir the flour with the sugar, salt and lemon zest. Make a well in the center. Beat the egg and add to the well. Cube the butter and distribute over the flour mixture. Knead into a smooth dough. Shape into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 180°C (approximately 350°F).

On a floured surface, roll the dough to 3 mm (approximately 1/8 inch) thick. Cut out different sized circles.

Place the cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake until golden, about 10 minutes.

Remove the cookies from the oven, remove the parchment paper and cookies from the baking sheet and allow to cool.The cookies remove, pull the baking paper from the tray and leave to cool.

For decoration: Knead the marzipan with 70 grams (approximately 1/4 cup) of powdered sugar. Divide into 2 portions and color with the red and green food coloring.

7.

In a bowl, stir the remaining powdered sugar with some milk to form a glaze.

8.

On a surface dusted with powdered sugar, roll the two colored marzipan mixtures into thin sheets. Cut out stars or circles. Place the marzipan cutouts on the cookies and press to adhere. Decorate with the glaze and allow to dry.
