Preparation steps

For the dough, mix the flour with powdered sugar in a bowl. Add vanilla sugar, hazelnuts and salt. Chop in butter with a dough scraper. Add egg and knead everything quickly into a smooth dough. Cover the dough and chill about 1 hour in the refrigerator. Preheat the oven to 180°C (approximately 350°F).

Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Form the dough into a log and cut into evenly-sized pieces. Form pieces into crescent shapes and bake until golden, 8-12 minutes. Meanwhile, for decorating, chop the chocolate coarsely and melt over a hot water bath.

Remove finished cookies from the oven, allow to cool, and dip in melted chocolate. Drain and allow to dry on a wire rack. Before the crescents are completely dry, sprinkle with ground hazelnuts.
