Chocolate Christmas Cake
The dark chocolate in the cake can make us relax during the sometimes stressful Christmas season, because the secondary plant substances contained in the cocoa and magnesium have a relaxing and calming effect.
If you would like to give the chocolate cake an additional Christmassy flavour, you can add spices such as cinnamon, cloves or cardamom to the dough together with the flour. Either way, the chocolate cake is a quick recipe for Christmas that always goes down well!
Preheat oven to 200°C (approximately 400°F). Grease springform pan with butter.
Melt chopped chocolate over a hot but not boiling water bath. Remove from heat and stir in cold butter (cut into pieces first). Separate eggs. Beat egg whites until stiff. Beat yolks with sugar until fluffy, light and creamy. Gently stir in chocolate mixture. Fold in egg whites. Sift in flour and fold.
Pour mixture into springform pan and bake on middle rack for 35 minutes. Cake is done when toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan, remove and place on a cake plate. Using a star template, add stars to top of cake with powdered sugar as desired. Slice and serve.
